Your home

The warmth inside your home is constantly 'leaking away' into the surrounding air and how quickly this happens is determined by the energy efficiency of your home. The energy efficiency of your home depends on a number of things, such as its age and type and how well insulated it is. There are some things about your home that can’t be changed but there are other things that can make a big difference to the way your home stays warm. These include:

  • loft insulation
  • draughtproofing
  • cavity-wall insulation
  • insulation around your hot-water tank.

Grants may be available to carry out energy efficiency improvements to your home and in many cases the work will be done free of charge. For information on the various grant schemes that are available, please go to 'Where to get help'.
