As fuel prices go up it gets harder for people to pay their fuel bills and afford to heat their homes adequately. To help with these problems the George Street area was identified as the first Warm Zone in Aberdeen. The Warm Zone in George Street ran from July 2008-October 2008. The Warm Zone has now been expanded in Aberdeen to the whole of the George Street and Harbour area electoral ward. This ward covers the areas of Footdee (Fittie), Harbour, Guild Street, Castle Street (Castlegate), Union Street (Castlegate to Bridge Street), George Street, Bedford Road, Sunnybank, King Street (Castlegate to Orchard Street) Seaforth Road and the properties by the beach. In the Warm Zone we aim to help as many households as possible to reduce heating bills by improving the energy efficiency of all homes, and, to make sure everyone in that area is receiving any benefits they are entitled to. This project is a free service for all residents - from owner-occupiers to tenants of Council, housing associations and private landlords. In 2008 a team of surveyors called on all the homes in the George Street area. They carried out a simple survey to identify households to find out if they could gain additional income through having a confidential benefit entitlement check, and, if they could reduce their fuel bills by having improved insulation or more efficient heating in their home. This time the Warm Zone will be working with local community groups and organisations and advice workers to find as many people as possible who may need out help. We offer to clients:
