Warmer homes in Shard End

Warm Zones is working with Birmingham City Council and npower to help local residents to make their homes warmer and more affordable to heat.

Since 2000, Warm Zones has developed a proven and cost-effective way to deliver help to households who are struggling to keep warm or to pay their fuel bills.

Shard End Warm Zone will be knocking on doors throughout the ward to see how homes can be improved and help people get grants for insulation or even new central heating.

Energy efficiency measures alone are not always the answer to cold damp homes; increasing household income and saving energy can make a big difference too. So all householders who complete our doorstep assessment will also be entitled to free energy efficiency advice and a free benefits check.

Measures available

  • Free or low cost loft and cavity walls insulation;
  • Free low energy lightbulbs;
  • Free central heating for eligible households;
  • Grants to help people on certain benefits make their homes warmer places to live;
  • Discounts on new boilers – warmer homes;
  • Free energy efficiency advice and benefits checks.

Awareness raising
General and ward-specific marketing, promotion and direct mailing is the starting block - taking the message out to groups whether in a church hall, library or the local community centre.
