| What is a Warm Zone? | ||||||||||||
| Warm Zones is the only large-scale, Defra/DTI/EST independently evaluated area-based programme delivering an effective, targeted approach to identify fuel-poor households and deliver real benefits through energy efficiency improvements and income maximisation. Warm Zones is part of National Energy Action (NEA), the national fuel poverty charity. Warm Zones Limited (WZL) is a separate, wholly owned, not-for-profit subsidiary of NEA operating in accordance with Charity Commission guidelines. The overall business mission of Warm Zones Limited (WZL) is: “To use its experience to facilitate the efficient, integrated and appropriate delivery of practical measures to alleviate fuel poverty and improve domestic energy efficiency of all households in defined geographical areas.” WZL markets and promotes the Warm Zone concept to local authorities, energy suppliers and other potential partners to establish new Zones, while continuing to support the operational Zones. WZL brokers funds and grants from a wide range of sources to deliver benefits such as energy efficiency, carbon savings, fuel poverty reductions, benefits advice, health improvements, fire and home security, employment skills and training. Warm Zones promote the WZL aim of delivering ‘something for everybody’ across all housing sectors whilst securing substantial leverage from existing funds and encouraging local partnerships to shape Zone priorities and direction. Zones are effective in accessing the hard-to-reach and other vulnerable households who are at greatest risk.
